Latest news...“Raindrops keep fallin’ on my head…” name that movie! Most of us can readily recall Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid with Paul Newman, Robert Redford and Katherine Ross riding bicycles in the rain. Music is often critical to the experience of a movie scene and sometimes becomes as iconic as the movie itself. A song from a movie can elicit memories of where you saw the film – the Leachman, the Aggie, the Campus theater and who you were with on a Saturday afternoon. Songs from movies can gently remind you of important times in your life.
The first movie soundtrack released as an album was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1938. The Bodyguard was and is still the best selling movie soundtrack of all time…”And IIIIIIIIIIIII will always love you” – thanks Dolly Parton! The all time, best selling movie single is Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas” from Holiday Inn. And who would guess that the Oscar winning song from Mary Poppins was “Chim Chim Cher-ee”? A favorite movie soundtrack is for listening to in your car with the windows down so you can sing along at the top of your voice. My personal favorite is Angela Lansbury (Mrs. Potts) singing “Beauty and the Beast”. I still get goose bumps. At our next concert, the Stillwater Community Singers will present Songs from the Movies. We know you will recognize most, if not all, of these classics. This free concert is on Thursday evening, April 18th at 7:30pm in the Houston Auditorium of the Stillwater Community Center. Come join us and relive some of your favorite movie memories. Did you miss our Holiday Concert?Or do you want to hear it again? Sit back and click the play button...
